Fourteen matches were played. Five were won, two were lost, four were drawn, and in three games rain stopped play. In many ways it was a very satisfactory season, due in no small measure to Workman's captaincy and individual performance, but also because of the development of younger players who came into the eleven for their first season. Miller and Townson, for example, bowled very steadily and show great promise for the future; and Markham not only kept wicket adequately but also made a valuable contribution as a batsman. Workman scored 501 runs (including two centuries) for an average of 41.7; Smith, with 220 runs, had an average of 27.5; Byrde a total of 204, average 25.5; Markham scored 142 for an average of 17.7. Miller, Townson, Davies, Workman, McCulloch, and Byrde shared the bowling. The bowling, perhaps, still lacks that extra "bite", but there are signs that it may cope well with the stronger opposition we hope to have next season, when we shall be playing the first elevens of some schools whose second elevens we played this past season. The season opened with three Colours in the side: Workman, McCulloch and Davies; and Colours were awarded to Smith and Byrde. Workman is to be congratulated on scoring the first century in a school match, on his captaincy of the Suffolk Grammar Schools XI, and his vice-captaincy of (and excellent performance with) the Suffolk Young Amateurs' XI.
