The Language Assistants: young men with energy, talent and ambition who gave a huge amount to the school. Unfortunately, some are either hardly mentioned in "Janus" or not mentioned at all - but I am sure they are remembered by (some of!) the boys!

TOP MAN - apart from his normal duties he joined up with some boys in a (sort of) jazz band called "The Feetwarmers", which performed at various functions. He was the real musician among us, playing the piano and telling us all what and how to to play.

When I look back, what he did with us was pretty awesome. Not sure we ever thanked him enough, but I can't remember how the year ended. We SHOULD have had a farewell party in his honour, but I don't think we did. Just one more regret......

? Becherel   Michael Handley: "Monsieur Becherel who taught French no less; he was from Mauritius I believe. He didn't teach me but did give me the words for La Marseillaise, which after all this time has stuck my memory."
John Tuddenham: "Becherel had rooms at the top of the main building. He came and went very quickly .... the only time I came top in French ... it was a 20 question paper .... and that was it! I remember the morning he came weaving up the driveway on a bike as we were going to breakfast. He made it to the front door of the main building, fell off and disappeared inside.
Story goes he stole the bike in Ipswich after a heavy session. It was announced later in assembly that he had left and he was never seen again ...."
