Chris Snuggs: "Barry replaced Merlin Channon, who left to become Teacher Trainer in Cheltenham. We wondered how his replacement would match up to Merlin's great achievements, but Barry maintained and even surpassed his predecessor over more than three decades. He was a hero to anyone who did music at the school. Creative, patient, always positive, cheerful, encouraging - inspiring even, he got it all together; he got things done, he got the best out of boys, and not just those naturally gifted in his subject. He played a massive and utterly unforgettable part in the creation of the WHS legend. It was a privilege to have learned and played with him."
