My condolences to the family. Rosemary (Peacock)” Chris Snuggs - Berners/Halls 58-65: “I also took part at Northgate School in at least two of those musical weekends around that time, Rosemary. Perhaps we even played in the same orchestra! That was a wonderful and memorable initiative, but typical of his ambition to give us different musical experiences.” Daniel Dave O'Byrne - Johnstons 67-72: “I'm sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences to you, your family and to all who knew and loved him. Memories have flooded back about being in the choir for ‘The Messiah’, ‘St Mathew Passion’, ‘Carmina Burana’. He had to work very hard with me and us. I struggled to keep up, learn my treble parts, focus, concentrate, relax!! He never kicked me out though. Those early musical experiences were, with hindsight, important in my musical and performing development. I couldn't get to grips with formal music lessons then. Hhowever, singing in the choir - that was great! Thank you Barry for your talent, energy, enthusiasm, and patience. Encore!” Colin Fludgate - Corners 69-76: “I went on to study music at university. Great man.” Peter Norgrove - Berners 68-75: “Sincere condolences. Sorry to hear this news.” Warren Crewe - Corners 71-77: “Very sad news! I remember him with great fondness for his patience and for encouraging me to appreciate many different kinds of music! And the Bassoon! RIP x” Chris Snuggs - Berners/Halls 58-65: “So many wonderful memories of creativity and teamwork. I will in particular remember Barry's unfailing positive approach; his eagerness to praise and encourage rather than scorn or criticise. I cannot in truth remember him ever uttering a single cross word, indeed anything negative. Did he ever frown or scowl for some reason? I don't remember it. As has been said, he encouraged and devoted himself completely to all, not just the competent musicians. He never needed to tell a boy off for misbehaviour because with Barry you had too much respect to misbehave, and in any case you were too busy enjoying the music. We were very lucky.” Steve Johnston - Johnstons 60-64: “Well said, Chris. I second that. He never scorned our struggling attempts to play Jazz. Instead he showed me how to play cool diminished and minor 6 chords on the piano. Says it all really.” France Tetreault: “Oh dear. So sorry to read this. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.(on behalf of Jeremy Edward Page)” Gary Jones - Orwell 67-73: “RIP Barry. My condolences to you all XX.” Marcus Redburn: “A true gentleman and amazing music teacher. He had total faith in me as I played the viola and was an inspiration. Remember when we put on the summer concert and the whole school loved it! Genius and gave us the opportunity to make us feel that music was totally impartial. Will never forget you. Thank you, Sir.” Allister Hutchings - Corners 64-67: “Sad news. He was a wonderful teacher, who taught more than just music. RIP Sir.” |
