Chris Hopkirk - Halls 72-79: “You are spot on. I remember Johnny Morris our housemaster taking us birdwatching. And Mr Hyde taking us into Ipswich to look at the different architecture.
I have never been an academic, but I am very rounded in my general knowledge thanks to them.”
Toby Blundun - Hansons 68-75: “Michael Coulter took us artists to, I think, Ipswich Art School to see classics like ‘The Bicycle Thieves’ and ‘Wild Strawberries’ round about ‘74-75. Like you say, we knew this was something good even if we didn’t know quite what it was!”
Paul O'Dea - Johnstons 74-79: “As a sex-obsessed pubescent teenager, my main memory of movies in Ipswich was nonchalantly strolling past the cinema trying to pluck up courage to buy a ticket to see ‘Emmanuel’.”
Peter Sadler: “Ipswich Film Society used various places to show films before the Corn Exchange Film Theatre opened. The Film Theatre is still open, run by volunteers since Ipswich BC tried to close it about 20 years ago. Thank you for your message about the Film Society. It’s always good to hear ex-pupils’ memories and to know what you and they thought of any of their experiences. One OW told me he joined the Film Society as it gave him plenty of time in the pub instead of the cinema.”
Chris Snuggs - Berners/Halls 58-65: “WHS BOYS? Resourceful, cunning, devious, inventive - and where girls were concerned somewhat desperate! WHS MASTERS? Just one word: AWESOME ...... Looking forward to seeing you at the REUNION.”
