Planning the Guest List : Zap writes .....

Amongst the converstations I had with Derek there were a few names that he mentioned and I used the internet to track some people down. Mark Wing-Davey was quite a catch. He was due to be on stage in Chicago (or was it Boston) - anyway, Mark changed his flights to be with us.

In case you didn’t know he is an old boy who came back to do drama at the school. Amongst the many things he has done was Zapho Beeblebrox in "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

Then:
And now:

Derek said that he often wondered what people like Jim Cottrell were doing and he wanted to thank him for many years of enjoyable rugby. Well, behind the scenes, little did he know that Jim was living 10 minutes up the road from me in Enfield, so I had this idea to buy a vintage brown leather rugby ball to be signed by all the boys that attended, which would then be the big finish to the function, which is why we had old boys standing in the wings ready to enter at the back of the luncheon.

I could not get Martin Offiah to be with us in person, but I got a signed photo of him holding a cup, and he signed another photo for Derek - thanking him for inspiring him to pray to the God of Rugby!!
